Glasses-free 3D comes to the iPad 2

ipad2The folks over at the Engineering Human-Computer Interaction research group(University of Grenoble, France) released a glasses-free 3D app for the iPad 2 late last week. Unlike the technology used in the Nintendo 3DS, which uses multi-layer screens to simulate a 3D experience, this app uses head-tracking mechanisms to tweak the image displayed on the device, based on the location of the viewer. The result: one of the – if not the – most impressive glasses-free 3D demo for the iPad we’ve seen thus far.

Apple’s new iPad 2

Apple® today announced that iPad® 2, the second-generation of its third post-PC device, will go on sale in 25 additional countries this Friday, March 25. iPad 2 will be available at Apple retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers at 5 p.m. local time, and online through the Apple Store® (www.apple.com) beginning at 1 a.m. Apple today also announced that all models of iPad 2 will be available in Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and additional countries in April.

While competitors are still struggling to catch up with our first iPad, we’ve changed the game again with iPad 2,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’re experiencing amazing demand for iPad 2 in the US, and customers around the world have told us they can’t wait to get their hands on it. We appreciate everyone’s patience and we are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”

Apple iPad 2 to sell online from 1AM onwards

Apple launched the iPad 2 tablet on March 2 and stated that it would be available for purchase from retail stores on March 11. This time Apple iPad 2 would be available from Apple Stores, AT&T store, Verizon store, and also from the retail partners – Best Buy, Target and Wal-mart. Apple has confirmed to take iPad 2 orders from the Apple Online Store for those who wish to buy it on day one have to stand in queue for hours.

The retail stores offering new Apple products are crowded and hectic on the first day of availability. People queue up days before actual availability of the product and many have done the same for iPad 2. Apple wants to make more sales on the first day itself and hence will be taking the iPad 2 orders online – 16 hours before the actual sales start form the retail stores. Basically, Apple wants the iPad 2 to outsell the first generation iPad even faster.
